The Sexual Freedom Award Show Celebrates its Silver Jubilee Back at the Clapham Grand
The Sexual Freedom Awards (SFA), an annual celebration of sexual expression and erotic artistry, celebrates its 25th anniversary on Monday 25th November 2019.
The Awards, which celebrate campaigners, educators, sex workers, artists and activists have been running since 1994.
This year’s event will be hosted by Charlie George, who rose to fame as a finalist at 2018’s Pride’s Got Talent. George, a former dancer, circus performer and winner of Leicester Square Best New Comedian in 2018, is ecstatic to be taking part.
“I’m so excited to be working with such liberated people” she states “I cannot wait to make people laugh and feel the joy that comedy brings to such an auspicious occasion!” George has been described as a unique, hilarious talent, and as ‘an 18th century white man trapped in the body of a queer brown lady’.
The ceremony will include a panel of judges chaired by Kim Loliya, Sex Educator and Coach who says “The Sexual Freedom Awards are an invaluable opportunity to celebrate and uplift the people and groups fighting tirelessly for sexual freedom while facing invisibility and marginalisation. The Awards will be showcasing the pioneering work of our industry, and after 25 years, we are more committed than ever to stand for the sexual freedom of everyone.”
There is a huge diversity in the groups and people involved including Charlotte Rose who was Sex Worker of the Year 2013 and member of Sex Workers Opera, Dan Glass, Activist of the Year 2017 and founder of the new Aids Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) London Chapter and Professor Claire De Than, Ally of the Year 2015, Legal Academic and Law Commissioner.
The SFA is also an annual fundraiser for The Outsiders Trust, a non-profit organisation which supports people who are physically or socially disabled and this year, the Trust will be celebrating 40 years of support, peer networking and social events.
The SFAs continue to change lives for the better ‘as a previous winner of the awards, I cannot stress the importance of recognition within an already stigmatised industry’ advises sexual freedom activist and sex worker Charlotte Rose.
There are nine separate awards set to be handed out at this year’s ceremony, with an online nomination form still open for submissions. The 2019 SFAs will celebrate winners in the following categories:
• Ally of the Year
• Pioneer of the Year
• Activist of the Year
• Sex Worker of the Year
• Striptease Artist of the Year
• Performance of the Year
• Event of the Year
• Somatic Sexologist of the Year
The Sexual Freedom Awards celebrate those who stand up and fight for sexual rights and a sex-positive world. We aim to promote excellence in the field of sexuality by celebrating a standard of inclusivity, openness and accessibility, frequently under threat by negativity and politics.
The Awards’ night focuses on the finalists of each category. It showcases the best talent for the Performance and Striptease categories, mixed with award-giving and fabulous guest cabaret acts.
If you believe in our values of equality, inclusion, sex positivity, gender non-conformity and accessibility then come join us to see the movers and shakers get rewarded for all they do. Whether you are a member of the public, have colleagues who have been nominated or have a professional interest in the Awards, we encourage you all .... to buy a ticket! Be there to give rip-roaring applause and cheers to show your appreciation.
The award is the glorious and famous Flying Golden Penis Trophy, hand carved for the event in Bali. All nominees have shown dedication, spirit and excellence in what they have achieved but only the winners receive this trophy.
The charity supports an online club of people who have disabilities so that they might find friends, relationships and explore their sexual expression. It also runs a helpline, helps professionals through a forum and is behind various websites with information from finding a sex worker to how a professional can approach someone with a disability to talk about sex.

The Sexual Freedom Awards are a fund-raising event for The Outsiders Trust (charity number 283350).
The Awards are an event backed by SMB Productions CIC that also back the Sexual Freedom Ball.
The Sexual Freedom Awards honour pioneers in sexuality, striptease artists, sexual service providers and their allies. They are intended for those who are making significant contributions to advancing the sexual freedom and rights of people through campaigning, sex work, somatic sex education including sex & relationship coaching, sexological bodywork & psycho-sexual therapy. The proceeds of the Awards ceremony are used to fund the work of the Outsiders Trust – a charity, which supports disabled people with their sexual rights and expression.
We would love to receive nominations for people new to us as well as those more well-known in the field.
Nominations have now closed.
